Spring is in the Air

Thursday, March 11, 2010

OMG! That is an understatement. It was actually 66 degrees and sunny in NE Ohio today. I saw many signs that spring is in the air today on my walk today. While walking Casey this morning, I saw so many people outside enjoying the weather, however, seeing chalk drawings on the sidewalk and a bird almost pooping on me from above are definite signs that spring is almost here. Yippee! After 2 months of running in circles on the track at the gym, I decided that today was a great sign that I need to start running outstide. I completed Week 5 Day 2 of my C25K training. It was quite a challenge, I had to warm up 5 minutes, run 8 minutes, walk 5 minutes, run 8 minutes and cool down 5 minutes. I honestly didn't think I was going to make those 8 minute runs without walking, but I did it, that's not to say it wasn't hard. I was able to finish 2.6 miles in 37 minutes and boy did it feel good running outside. Saturday I have a big challenge of running 20 minutes without walking. Stay tuned to see if I can do it. Lap swimming wasn't the best today, but I did swim a mile in about 20 minutes. I am just not a lap swimmer, but need to get my endurance up if I want to complete a Sprint Triathlon later this year, so I am going to keep swimming.

Well, I have been off my workout schedule for the past few weeks. Had a little trouble with motivation, and then I was sick for about a week or so and am just now feeling better. I am going to use this blog to document my journey. It was so nice out today, I think it was in the 50's which is warm to us after the winter we have had. I took Casey for a 2.5 mile walk this morning, and it was nice to not be all bundled up. I am using a C25K (Couch 2 5K) program for the iPhone that is great. It is a 9 week program. The program I am using tells you when to walk and when to run and at the end of the 9 weeks, I should be about to run a 5K (3.1 miles). This particular program also allows you to use your own music while running. I have tried 2 or 3 other apps, and like this one best. I went to the Natatorium and did C25K Week 5 Day 1, it was hard since I haven't done any running in a few weeks, but I managed to finish and completed 2.5 miles in 31 minutes. I continued on for about 10 more minutes and completed .5 miles to bring my total to 5.5 for the day. After the run, I swam laps for 25 minutes and then the best part of my workout, sitting in the jacuzzi. Aw, very relaxing. I took Casey for a short walk this evening, and at 6:30 it was still light out. I love that the days are staying lighter longer.
